JHMC CONDUCTS FIRE EVACUATION DRILL TO STRENGTHEN ITS EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROTOCOLS
Camp John Hay, Baguio City – On March 28, 2025, at 3:00 PM, John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) held a fire evacuation drill to test its emergency response readiness. The simulation presented was a fire erupting in the ground-level pantry area, which triggered the emergency alarm. JHMC employees promptly evacuated the building via designated pathways—the lobby and fire escape—since other exits were inaccessible. The drill also involved the simulation of injuries, where one employee received a forehead cut on the second floor and another could not walk because of a suspected spinal injury on the ground floor.
The sequence of events tested various response protocols, beginning with alarming and having all employees leave the building. Safety officers timed the evacuation of the first and last person out. A simulated notification was sent to the Scout Hill fire station, and response times were tracked. The JHMC fire brigade showcased methods of fire suppression, while a search and rescue team entered the building to search for and evacuate those with injuries. The medical first responders gave instant first aid with equipment available in the office. Once the fire had been extinguished, the designated JHMC safety inspectors entered the building to check its state while the other department heads had a roll call at the muster point in the JHMC open parking lot to verify all the employees were present.
The drill was followed by a debriefing session to assess the exercise’s success and where it could improve. Feedback questionnaires were issued to obtain inputs from participants for continuous improvement in emergency procedures. This fire evacuation drill is JHMC’s dedication to safety and readiness at the workplace, reflecting the proactive nature of the organization in ensuring its employees’ safety during emergencies.
