JHMC addresses the issues on domestic violence


The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) employees, students leaders of the Baguio City High School, Boys Scout and Girls Scout of the Philippines, various barangay officials of the John Hay Reservation Area (JHRA), John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) business enterprises representatives, and Maximum Security, posed with the Resource Speaker, Atty. Baguio City – Government owned and controlled corporation John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), a subsidiary of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) conducted an Awareness Seminar on Republic Act 9262 otherwise known as the Anti- Violence against Women and their Children Act and Republic Act 7877 otherwise known as the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 held at the DBP Training Center, Romulo Drive, Baguio City.
The Awareness Seminar forms part of the initiatives of the JHMC Gender and Development (GAD) program to address the prevailing issue of domestic violence which poses danger to the workforce, affects the productivity and efficiency of workers and well-being of women in the community in general.

The time and relevance of the seminar is impeccable considering the recorded domestic violence cases in Baguio City Police and the provinces in the Cordillera Region (CAR) as recorded by the various Women’s Desk of the local police.
The seminar was likewise attended by student leaders from the Baguio City National High School; members of the Girls Scout and Boys Scout of the Philippines; barangay officials within the John Hay Reservation Area (JHRA); and representatives of various business enterprises within the John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ).

Dr. Jamie Eloise M. Agbayani, JHMC President and CEO, in her welcome remarks emphasized the importance of the seminar considering that the scope of abuse on women and children is extensive encompassing physical, psychological, emotional, economic and mental abuse.
Atty. Emily A. Balungay of the Civil Service Commission – CAR, the Resource Speaker, comprehensively discussed all the areas covered by R. A. 9262 and R. A. 7877 and answered all queries from the participants. She provided valuable information and practical tips on enforcing one’s rights under these laws by discussing the elements of the offense from its commission up to the filing of a case with the proper agency until it reaches the court for resolution.

Indeed, JHMC advocates of ending domestic violence and would like to instill joy and love of family as the driving force to encourage affectionate and proficient citizen.

Upholding its mandate as an engine of national economic growth and development within the Cordillera Region, JHMC continues to be vigilant in promoting the rights and interests of its employees, locators and the communities within the JHRA by lending a hand in addressing the pressing problems of society.
