Camp John Hay, Baguio City- John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), the administrator of Camp John Hay, installed manual sirens in two strategic locations in Happy Hollow Barangay on June 7, 2023.
The manual siren aims to improve the fire safety of the camp’s forest-covered areas by expediting response once alarms are heard at neighboring ranger stations, prompting them to request assistance from the city fire department and other emergency responders. It will significantly decrease, if not eliminate, casualties and serious potential harm to forest products.
The siren is hand-operated and is activated by just making a circular motion of its handle to produce a sound. The sound is heard within a 1.5-kilometer radius, which is enough to send warnings to nearby houses in the area.
JHMC hopes that the new device will be utilized extensively for safety and to bolster the forest conservation efforts of the corporation. END
