Empowering Environmental Guardians: JHMC DENRO Training for a Sustainable Future

Camp John Hay, Baguio City – On July 23, 2024, the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) held a successful training and capacity-building session at the Bellhouse. This event was attended by 53 personnel from JHMC, security personnel, and forest patrols.

The training primarily focused on environmental laws and forestry practices, which include PD 705, otherwise known as the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, DAO No. 2008-22, or the Revised Guidelines on the Deputation of Environment and Natural Resources Officer (ENRO), RA 11038, or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018, RA 9175, or the Chainsaw Act of 2002, and proper timber scaling techniques and assessments.

Through this initiative, the participants would be well-equipped to effectively manage and safeguard the John Hay reservation area, contributing to long-term sustainability and environmental health. The event emphasized the significance of ongoing education and professional development for environmental conservation leaders, demonstrating the JHMC’s dedication to adhering to environmental practices.

The session featured distinguished resource speakers from the DENR-Regional Office Enforcement Division: Ginalyn B. Carias, Beberly T. Calugan, Foresters Meagan K. Ayochok, Dominador Martin, Jayziel Pa-as, Attorney Aberly Benawe, and Alaska Turaray.
