BCDA-JHMC Barangay Segregation Program Gathers Momentum

Camp John Hay, Baguio City: From July 9 to 12, 2024, the JHMC Office Complex in Camp John Hay was abuzz with significant discussions. The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) brought together stakeholders from the 13 barangays in the John Hay reservation area (JHRA) for a general assembly, the first since 2012, which focused primarily on the barangay segregation program (BSP).

The BCDA, represented by Senior Vice President for Conversion and Development Richard Brian M. Cepe and Land Management Officer IV Mark Angelo Barizo, alongside JHMC President and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Marlo Ignacio V. Quadra, JHMC Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Jane Theresa Tabalingcos, Environment and Asset Manager, Bobby V. Akia, Environment Manager, Engr. Editha M. Mejia and ABC President Hon. Rocky C. Aliping served as a panelist in a series of open forums. Councilors Leandro Yangot, Atty. Betty Lourdes Tabanda and Benny Bomogao have expressed their support for this endeavor. These forums aimed to foster community engagement and advocate for environmental stewardship.

The assembly’s agenda included plans for detailed household profiling and consultations for the Forest Stewardship and Natural Resource Management Program (FSNRMP) within the barangays. Attendees discussed ways to simplify the barangay segregation process and promote community-led environmental projects.

The BCDA-JHMC Barangay Segregation Program sets a precedent for collaborative governance and environmental stewardship in urban settings. By harnessing collective expertise and fostering partnerships, stakeholders aim to forge a sustainable future where ecological integrity and urban development coexist seamlessly.

Barangay officials and all stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to implementing actionable plans derived from the discussions.
