JHMC Explores Sustainable Solutions for Solid Waste Management

Camp John Hay, Baguio City – The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) has recently visited Holcim Philippines, Inc. to benchmark its good practices and sustainability strategies for efficiently managing its waste from collection to final disposal.

The permanent closure of the Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill in Tarlac has led JHMC to look for alternative waste disposal solutions.  This is to ensure the continuous operation of the camp’s solid waste management services and to address any potential environmental impact this event may cause.

Various local government units (LGUs) in Benguet that are to be affected by this closure  joined JHMC representatives on this visit. Cooperatively, they are set to embark on another visit to other facilities to determine the most cost-effective and feasible options that will improve each of their waste management practices.

Relatively, JHMC is looking at the possibility of establishing a material recovery facility (MRF). END
